This week, we speak to Lucy Pilcher…

What’s your role in the OAE office?Lucy Pilcher

Development Events Officer – I organise all of the events for people who support the Orchestra AND get to go to them, best job ever!

What does your typical day involve?

Anything from emailing corporates to arranging caterers to making pink tinsel name badges to going to drinks receptions…

Which mobile number do you call the most?

My sister – she’s one of my Magic Numbers and lives 200 miles away so we call each other a lot!

What – or where – is perfection?

A lazy morning spent in pyjamas with a tasty breakfast and the Guardian.

Who is your favourite hero from fiction (book/comic/film/opera) – and why?

Belle from Beauty and the Beast, because of how much she loves her Father and risks and sacrifices for him.

Which living person do you most admire (and why)?

My Grandma. She’s nearly 80 and still walks up the hill into the village every day to do the shopping, travels 200 miles to London to look after my younger brother, climbs ladders, cooks for her 20 family members, and knits and sews with incredible skill. She’s also the most selfless, loving, giving, intelligent and down-to-earth person I know.

What other talent or skill would you like to possess?

I would love to be a dancer or a linguist.

What do you fear the most?

Running out of milk. Porridge is the most vital part of my day.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

Never take anything for granted or become complacent.

What was the first album you ever bought?

Spice Girls – SPICE!

What is the most played piece of music on your MP3 player or in your CD collection?

Girl Talk’s All Day – a one-hour mash-up of different genres of recent popular music.

Which OAE concert are you most looking forward to this year?

Retrospectively, our Symphonic Enlightenment concert in January– Liszt’s Les Préludes had me grinning for hours!

What’s been the highlight of your time at OAE so far?

I’ve only been here 2 months and it’s already impossible to choose!
